The
Artful Alphabet
By Martina Jirankova-Limbrick
Publisher Candlewick Press
The typical alphabet book meant for preschoolers specializes in presenting the familiar. Martina Jirankova-Limbrick's alphabet book has plenty of the familiar, but also lots of things that will fascinate a child ready to stretch their vocabulary. The lion at the library lending desk is busily reading a book while the little girl, from whose magic hat all this artful alphabet appears, is busy perusing library shelves loaded with words like legible, labyrinth, and land lines. The lilting artwork will have your child busily searching for objects that begin with the appropriate letter. They'll want you to read them all the extra words incorporated into the illustrations. The Artful Alphabet will give future wordsmiths a love for the glorious possibility of words. This is not a preschooler's alphabet book.
