A Child is Born
By Margaret Wise Brown
Illustrator Floyd Cooper
Publisher Hyperion Books for Children

Most people, when they think of Jesus as the Word made flesh, think of him as resembling someone they would find familiar. In A Child is Born, Floyd Cooper brings Jesus home to African American children by illustrating Maragaret Wise Brown's Christmas poem with people of color. The illustrations show Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus as African Americans. The supporting cast, shepherds, wise men, and angels, are people of a variety of races. This chunky board book is a durable way to present the story of the nativity to toddlers.
