Fancy Nancys
By Jane O'Connor
Illustrator: Robin Preiss Glasser
Publisher HarperCollins

Fancy Nancy brings splendor and magnificence to everything she owns. Her efforts to add fanciness to her family's life haven't been working. Even at the ice cream store Mom, Dad, and little sister never even ask for sprinkles. Then she gets an idea, a stupendous idea, and soon her family is taking fancy lessons from Nancy. In full fancy swing, Dad announces the family will dine out at The King's Crown. How perfect! The family enters the restaurant in Fancy Nancy attire to the stares of the other diners and proceeds to eat pizza with pinkies extended. Tragedy ensues when Nancy drops a tray of sundaes, errrr.parfaits, and tearfully requests to go home. All cleaned up at home, Mom and Dad supply a new round of parfaits. The book closes as mom and dad tuck Nancy in bed, each saying "I love you" in turn.

This sweet book shows that children are who they are, fancy or plain, and that when you love someone you do things you wouldn't normally do just to please them. Illustrator Robin Preiss Glasser must know her own Fancy Nancy. Ribbons, hats, purses, shoes, beads, bows, ruffles, lace, jewelry, and crowns, lots of crowns, all find their place in Nancy's fancy world. Families with their own Fancy Nancy will get a big kick out of this book.
