Hello Santa!
Illustrator Christina Turner
Publisher MacKenzie Smiles
The idea of this wordless board book is solid. The choice of stark black and white for the illustrations, although traditional for silhouettes, was not quite Christmasy enough. Still, this is the kind of book that allows for endless story telling as parents must decide what they will say about each page. Each two-page spread offers an easily recognized aspect of who Santa is and what he does at Christmas. This is also the kind of book that toddlers can read to themselves using their own experiences in watching Mommy or Daddy hang Christmas lights or remembering what they've been told about Santa to provide their own commentary for the pictures. Toddlers will enjoy this book and while the color choice may seem odd to parents, high contrast images like these captivate babies.
