Soft House
By Jane Yolen
Illustrator Wendy Anderson Halperin
Publisher Candlewick Press
I have fond memories of building forts and play houses from blankets, clothespins, and carefully situated furniture. Soft House is a warm reminder of time spent in my own warm, dark haven. Jane Yolen's text and Wendy Anderson Halperin's illustrations will give the current generation of children who are stuck inside on a rainy day stimulus to start their own soft house building project. The gentle illustrations lend clues on how to go about it. Parents will be especially pleased with the relationship portrayed between brother and sister. Although squabbling is obviously part of their interactions, they also work together and obviously love one another. This sweet book is perfect rainy day reading by older sibling to younger sibling.
