Yesterday I Had the Blues
By

R. Gregory Christie
Publisher
Tricycle Press
Yesterday I Had the Blues will make you chuckle because it gets it just right. The young narrator had the blues yesterday, and he has the greens today. His little sister has the pinks, which drives her brother nuts. His daddy has the woe-of-life grays. His big sister has, "The kind of indigos make her act like the drapes." (That’s my favorite line in the book. The illustration brings out the humor in this line perfectly.) Grandma has the yellows, but beware because mama has the reds.
R. Gregory Christie's illustrations aptly picture the various color moods of this family. You'll recognize the various colors and connect them with your own family members. The author concludes that when you add all these colors together you get a family that, "makes you feel like it's all golden." This lilting story is sure to please young children with its rhythm and humor.
